Add Requirements to Line Items

You can require that inspectors choose a rating, add photos, and/or comment on certain line items in order to submit the inspection form. This is helpful if you have certain criteria that always needs to be evaluated, or if you'd always like photos of a certain area, for example.

Here's how requirements look in the app:

Your inspectors must be running at least version 5.5.7 of the OrangeQC iOS App or version 3.2.3 of the OrangeQC Android app in order for requirements to appear on their end.

How to add requirements

With the inspection form builder open, find the line item you'd like to adjust requirements for. Click the gray gear symbol to the right of the line item. (If you don't see this symbol, reach out to support@orangeqc.com so we can enable requirements for your account.)

This brings up a menu that allows you to adjust the settings for each line item.

Under Ratings:

  • Check "Completion required" to require that the inspector choose a rating. (If a line item requires a rating, it will now show "Select a Rating" instead of a default rating.)
  • Next to "Photo Required," choose "Always" to require one or more photos always be submitted with this line item, unless it's marked as Not Applicable or Unable to Complete. Checking "Always" will bring up a field to set the number of required photos.
  • Next to "Comment Required," choose "Always" if you want the inspector to be forced to leave a comment before submitting the form.
  • If "Never" is selected, inspectors still can add photos and comments, but they won't need to in order to submit the form.

In the "Allow 'Not Applicable" section:

  • The "Allow 'Not Applicable'" box is checked by default. Uncheck it if you don't want your inspectors to be able to mark the item as N/A. (Learn more about Not Applicable.)
  • Check "Require photo when N/A" to only add a requirement for one or more photos if the item is marked as N/A.
  • Check "Require comment when N/A" to only add a requirement for a comment if the item is marked as N/A.

In the "Allow 'Unable to Complete'" section:

  • The "Allow 'Unable to Complete'" box is checked by default. Uncheck it if you don't want your inspectors to be able to mark the item as N/A. (Learn more about Not Applicable.)
  • Check "Require photo when unable to complete" to only add a requirement for one or more photos if the item is marked as N/A.
  • Check "Require comment when unable to complete" to only add a requirement for a comment if the item is marked as N/A.
